This evening was the final orientation, the last time every
participant of Ivy League Connections would come together before summer. My mother and I arrived a few minutes early
and sat down at a bench near the front of the room. Although it had only been a
few weeks since I had seen everyone, it seemed like a lot longer and I was
happy to have the opportunity to chat with people before the orientation began.
Mr. Ramsey started off by reminding us the importance of
punctuality in a program such as ILC. The trip will only run smoothly if everyone
is on time to everything. Although we
hear this a lot, it is the absolute truth. These words have prompted me to work
on being punctual on a day-to-day basis in my own life. After Mr. Ramsey, Don
reminded us about the impact ILC has on not only it participants, but the
25,000 others in our school district. With every privilege comes responsibility
and we have a huge responsibility to both uphold and improve the positive
reputation of our school district.
We then moved on to the logistics. Don spoke to us about nearly
every item we would need. He went over the packing list with us and made sure
everyone was on the same page about what to bring. Then the cohorts separated to discuss more details.
The Columbia group headed out of the main room and into a classroom.
There, Ms. L gave each of our parents an itinerary for the trip and went over
key aspects of the schedule. I was very excited to hear that we will be eating
at one of the oldest steak houses in America. I just hope the steak isn’t as
old as the restaurant! We will also visit FDR’s home and the 9/11 Memorial. In
addition to all this, of course, we will be touring several Ivy League Schools
and dining with representatives from each school. In less than two weeks we
will be in New York City. I can’t wait.
